I rarely use Japanese whisky in cocktails because it’s delicious neat. But every so often I love a Highball with Toki whisky. Tonight I wanted a non-bourbon Old Fashioned and grabbed Nikka from the Barrel, the number one whisky of 2018 as rated by Whiskey Advocate. I was lucky enough to find a bottle a few months ago and decided to use it in my cocktail tonight. It’s a lovely whisky neat and just as delicious in this fruit salad inspired Old Fashioned.
2 oz. Japanese whisky
.25 oz honey syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
An assortment of orange, lemon and lime half moon slices and cocktail cherries
Combine whiskey, honey syrup and bitters in a mixing glass. Add ice. Stir until properly diluted and chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain over a giant chunk of ice in an Old Fashioned glass. Garnish with fruit slices.
