Raspberry cinnamon basil bourbon smash
- 2 oz. bourbon (I used Russell's Reserve single barrel)
- 4 to 6 fresh raspberries
- .75 oz. cinnamon bark syrup
- 6 basil leaves
- 1 oz. fresh lemon lemon
Combine raspberries, basil and cinnamon bark syrup in a mixing glass and muddle gently to release juice from raspberries and oil from the basil. Add bourbon, lemon and ice. Shake until properly cold. Double strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice and garnish with basil and a lemon wheel.
I love a good bourbon smash and this one doesn't disappoint. All the elements work together in a natural and balanced way. Feel free to play around with this cocktail. No raspberries on hand but you have strawberries, throw those in. No cinnamon syrup, use maple syrup. Experiment. I drank (gulped) this down while listening to Marketplace on NPR. A little unknown fact about me, I geek out to the daily business news at 6:30 p.m. on WBEZ. It's how I unwind while I cook dinner.
Bonus cocktail and dinner...
